What's Your Style?!

The LOOK...

Being able to express your style through dance can feel so free with no rules, with just you and the music. So when you finally get that freedom of free dress for a day or even a week, you want to be able to express your style with dance-wear (clothes suitable for movement and the genre).

It can get frustrating when you don't have a back up outfit for these surprise fun free dress days. So we are here to help give you some tips on styling your look but also within the recommendations of your school, A.K.A. Simple, Comfortable, Warm.

#TipOne. Keep It Simple.
Nothing worst than trying to dance in clothes that have too much fabric, that are falling off the shoulder and getting in the way of your free movement and style. We suggest to keep it simple, to keep it to two pieces of items, either a nicely fitted crop top WITH high waisted tights or loose fitted shorts, depending on your preferred style.

#TipTwo. Dress For Comfort.

Most of you dance for hours at a time in the afternoons, during the day and WEEKENDS.... be kind to yourself and dress comfortably, our feet cop enough beating during the day. Toss on a flow singlet or over sized t shirt to add the comfortable look with your style.

#TipThree. Warmth Is Key.
We all have heard the safety rules on how to keep our muscles warm to reduce injury. Well warmth can be stylish too. Think of those bright colours you can wear with new leg warmers or a gorgeous knitted shrug. Add some funky toe socks to your warm up look.

As a dance-wear store we hope we can help with any styles and looks you are wanting to create, and we would love to see your unique freestyle LOOK!

Competition season

Competition Season

The fun and exciting season of dance is just around the corner. This is the time to show off the talent you and your dance team have been working hard for. There is a lot of preparation to go into eisteddfods, hours of practicing and hours behind the scenes getting costumes spic and spam for the spot light.

One thing that is commonly left to the last minute is make-up preparation. Ordinary daily make-up is not going to cut it for the hours wearing it on stage. A dancer's make-up wants to be longer lasting and noticeable. It is well worth it for the competition season to invest in the right quality make-up to eliminate time touching up. When building your make-up kit, you'll want to look for
           BOLD & BRIGHT
colours. Also double up on mascara, eyeliners or even lipstick. You'll be surprised how much mascara you go through.

Dancing for hours all day, all weekend at these competitions can be tiring and exhausting for little bodies. The costumes and dance routines are important but not nearly as important as your health and nutrition. A big breakfast full of protein and fruit will help fuel your muscles for the day ahead. Remembering to keep up the hydration with water through out day. Snacks can be tricky, as you don't want to be feeling heavy for the next dance. Bananas & apples or carrot sticks can help keep you full as well as nuts and popcorn. Your body has worked all day and what better way to finish off the day with one of mums delicious dinner recipes.

Hope to see you all ready and full of energy for the competition season.

Happy Dancing Xx

Simple and Chic

Simple and Chic

Going out for dinner, a date or seeing the ballet?
This look is a perfect for any occasion.

The Winged Eyeliner

Using a black liquid liner, gently draw a line across your lash line starting from the top inner corner of your eye toward the outer corner of your eye, then continue to extend the line out to where you want the wing to finish.

Make sure you follow the natural shape of your eye as close to the root of your eye lashes as possible. The firmer you press the brush, the thicker the line will be.

After you have applied the eyeliner to both eyes, compare the liner on each eye making sure they are even. It may take a little practice to get them both even. So if they aren't even, simply take a cotton tip and lightly drag along the line to make it symmetrical to the other eye.
Don’t forget to add a little mascara!!

Lining your Lips

The key to achieving any bold lip is to hydrate your lips. Cracked and peeling lips will make your lipstick blotchy, which we don’t want!

Outlining your lips will keep the colour from running, make it last longer and also make your lips look fuller.

Your lip liner should be the same or similar colour to your lipstick. Apply it to the edges of your lips following your natural lip line, then continue to fill in the rest of the lip. If you want your lips to appear a little bigger simply extend the line just slightly outside of your natural lip line.

The Lippy

To get perfect lips use a lip brush, you will have much more control over where the lipstick goes. (especially cause red is a tricky colour)

Start in the middle of your lip and move out to the corners. Then, take a tissue and dab it between your lips. When the excess has been removed, reapply for maximum colour. (this will help it last longer as well)

Colour those cheeks

Add a little bit of blush onto your cheek bones preferably a natural looking colour.

You can dress this look up or down. For a cute, casual look wear a simple summer dress and your favorite flats. Or if you’re going to a really fancy restaurant or to see the ballet, wear a elegant gown and matching heels of course!

Have fun and good luck ! xx

Snacks for Energy!

Snacks for Energy

As Dancers we spend countless hours in the studio learning, perfecting and enhancing our dancing ability. It is important for us to take care of our own bodies, considering it allows us to practice our passion as long as possible. I know it can be challenging to keep up with school, assignments and other activities on top of dance classes, and also maintaining healthy eating habits. Eating a balanced meal requires a lot of discipline and planning, but doing so is beneficial in many ways.
For some snack ideas that will keep you satisfied without making you feel bloated in rehearsals and keep your energy levels up, choose a few from this list of healthy snacks below:

  • Fruits, like apples and bananas are good for dancers, especially since they are high in fiber, which means they will keep you full but won't weigh you down. Fruit also provides a boost of energy, allowing you to complete each step with confidence and strength.

  • Like fruits, Vegetables are also high in fiber, so keep you full, increasing your stamina. In addition, they improve digestion, which is necessary for internal health. Vegetables such as celery, carrots, cucumbers, zucchini, and green beans can be served with a low fat dip.

  • Nuts are very beneficial for dancers. They help manage inflammation, which can occur during an intense dance session or practice. Nuts are also a source of an amino acid called arginine, which boosts the immune system and promotes the healing of wounds. Even further, they help to build muscle, which helps to create strong legs, abs, and arms.

  • Popcorn is a whole grain, and therefore is high in dietary fiber, low in fat, and rich in the good carbohydrates. This means that as the food is broken down by the body, energy is created. The most important thing is not to add fatty condiments such as butter, salt, which can dehydrate you. It is best to add spices such as pepper or herbs like curry.

  • Make sure you keep hydrated through rehearsals by drinking water

Keep Safe and Happy Dancing!

Sore Back Relief

Sore back?

After class you need to make sure you stretch out your back especially from all the back bends and walkovers you do. Below you will find a few stretches that you can do at the end of your lesson.

Hug Your Knees - Lie on your back. Grab your knees, pull them toward your chest and breathe. Slowly push your lower back into the floor. Repeat this a several times.

Side Knee Drop - Lie on your back. Grab your knees, pull them toward your chest and breathe, Hold onto your knees with one hand/arm and extend the other arm onto the floor. Gently drop your knees to the opposite side. Breathe and switch sides. Repeat several times.

Traditional Toe Touch - Keeping your knees straight roll down and touch your toes. If touching your toes is now too easy wrap your arms around your legs and bring your chest to your knees. Then release and roll back up through your spin. Repeat several times.

A little trick to relax your body, lay on your back, bend your knees and feet flat on the ground. Make sure feet are apart so you can rest your knees against each other. Wrap your arms around your neck until your hands are resting on the ground. Lay in this position for as long as you want maybe even put on some relaxing music as you do this.
